Diplomats from Bulgaria, the United States and Vietnam Compete in the 17th Edition of the “Diplomats and Friends” Golf Tournament at Pirin Golf

For the 17th consecutive year, Pirin Golf & Country Club hosted the traditional “Diplomats and Friends” Golf Tournament, held under the patronage of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, Ms. Velislava Petrova. The event once again brought together members of the diplomatic corps, business leaders, and golf enthusiasts in an atmosphere of sportsmanship, friendship, and international cooperation.

Over the years, the tournament has established itself as one of the most recognizable events in the calendar of Bulgaria’s diplomatic community, combining opportunities for informal networking and exchange of ideas with the promotion of Bulgaria as an attractive destination for golf and sports tourism.

This year’s edition welcomed representatives from Bulgaria, the United States, and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, along with their friends and partners, all contributing to the strengthening of international relations across various fields of cooperation.

The tournament was played in the Stableford format, allowing players to accumulate points on each hole according to their performance. Following a highly competitive day on the course, the prestigious Minister’s Cup was awarded to Andon Tushev, who secured victory with 27 points.

In the Diplomats Division A, first place went to Andon Tushev.

The winner of Diplomats Division B was Tien Pham from the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Bulgaria, also finishing with 29 points.

In the Friends Division A, the title was claimed by Borislav Velkov, while Georgi Kaloyanov emerged victorious in Friends Division B.

The Best Lady award was presented to Krista Ciaffone of the United States, who demonstrated outstanding performance and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

Special recognition was paid to Ambassador Ivan Dimitrov, a distinguished Bulgarian diplomat and the driving force behind the initiative since its inception. Thanks to his dedication, vision, and commitment, the “Diplomats and Friends” Tournament has been successfully organized for seventeen consecutive years, becoming a symbol of friendship among nations fostered through both diplomacy and sport.

The world-class facilities and championship golf course at Pirin Golf & Country Club once again provided the perfect setting for an event that demonstrates how sport can serve as a powerful platform for dialogue, mutual understanding, and lasting international partnerships.
